Introduction
The Benedictine Abbey in Tyniec, beautifully located on the high, rocky bank of Vistula river on the outskirts of Krakow (15 minutes from the historical center), was founded at the end of 11th century and throughout the ages it continued to be a living center of the spirituality and organical work, according to the Rule of the St. Benedict.
In summer 2008 the Abbey finished the decades of long, ambitious work of reconstruction of the wing called The Great Ruine, with the strong financial support of the European Funds. In July 2008 the newly restored and tastefully arranged part of the building was opened to the public. Now it is the seat of Benedictine Institute of Culture, which offers among others also touristic attactions, Museum of the Abbey, conference rooms, Guest house.
